Play Therapy Weekend Workshops
Approved by the Association for Play Therapy (Provider #14-391) to provide professionals with the opportunity to learn more about play therapy or to receive specific education hours to become a Registered Play Therapist.
Space is limited to 10 people, so please register as soon as possible. Participants must submit payment at least 1 week prior to the workshop date. Workshops will be held at Military Integrative Therapies, 2106 Thoroughgood Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.

Registration Fee: $325 per 3-day workshop - 25 contact hours awarded for each 3-day workshop. Cancellations received at least two weeks prior to the workshop are refundable less a $25 administrative charge per registrant. Refunds will not be given for cancellations received less than 14 days before the start date of the workshop.
Dr. Kathleen Levingston is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She is the founder of the play therapy weekend workshops in the Hampton Roads area teaching the series for the past 10 years. She is also a CORE faculty member of Walden University in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, she has over sixteen years of clinical experience with children, adolescents and families.
Principles of Play Therapy
March 24-26, 2017 25 CEUs
This workshop will provide information about the rationale, philosophy, history, ethical standards, and theoretical underpinnings specific to the application of play therapy with various populations and in different settings. Basic facilitation skills, specific goals, and the role of the play therapist will be explored and practiced in relation to specific theories and in terms of general process of play therapy.
Activities and Expressive Arts in Play Therapy
April 21-23, 2017 25 CEUs
The therapeutic power of selected games, structured activities and expressive arts will be explored as they pertain to play therapy. Techniques specific to art, drama, children’s literature, puppets and music will be illuminated as ideal mediums through which children and adolescents express and heal themselves through the process of play therapy.
Sandtray and Narrative Techniques in Play Therapy
May 19-21, 2017 25 CEUs
Thorough experiential sandtray exercises and didactic methods, information about the rationale, history, and general application of sandtray in play therapy will be illustrated. Basic facilitation skills, theoretical constructs and strategies for processing sandtray and narration techniques will be discussed and demonstrated.
Group, Filial and Family Play Therapy
September 15-17, 2017 25 CEUs
Basic theoretical concepts related to systems theory, group therapy and family counseling will be presented. Group logistics, process, conflict resolution, and group facilitation skills will be described. In addition, methods will be covered illustrating how to implement filial therapy for parents to become healthy agents in their children’s lives.
Addressing Trauma and Loss through Play Therapy
October 13-15, 2017 25 CEUs
Specific issues faced by children, adolescents, and families affected by difficult environmental and systematic situations will be explored. The implications of abuse, crisis, death and divorce will be reviewed as they pertain to the process. The process of play, techniques, treatment plans and consultation procedures will also be discussed.
Play Therapy and Creative Interventions with Diverse Populations
November 3-5, 2017 25 CEUs
Research has indicated that play therapy is an effective treatment modality with people of all ages. This workshop will explore the process of play therapy and creative interventions when working with diverse populations such as adolescents and adults. Multicultural considerations and societal influences that specifically pertain to this population will also be addressed.
